Animadex — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how the Animadex mobile application (the “App”) collects, uses, and shares information about you. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.

The data controller responsible for your information is the developer of Animadex (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at privacy@animadex.app.

1. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in with Sign in with Apple, we receive an opaque Apple user identifier (and, only if you choose to share it, your name and/or email; Apple may relay a private, anonymized email address). You also choose a username and a home city/region.

Photos you capture

The core feature of the App is photographing or importing pictures of animals. These images are uploaded to our servers and stored so they can be added to your collection and shown across your devices. See Section 4 for how images are processed by third parties.

Location

With your permission, we collect the location where a photo is taken and your chosen home city/region. Location is used to place catches on a map and to power local leaderboards. You can deny or revoke location access in iOS Settings; the App remains usable without it.

Purchases

When you make an in-app purchase (premium subscription/upgrade, or consumable “Crests”), we record the transaction (product, transaction identifier, status) to grant and validate your entitlements. Apple processes the payment; we do not receive your payment card details.

Advertising identifier

If you consent via Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt, our advertising partner (Google AdMob) may access your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) to measure and personalize ads. If you do not consent, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalized.

Usage and gameplay data

We collect data generated as you use the App: your species collection, captures, quests, level, leaderboard standing, and friend connections.

Technical data

Our servers receive standard request information, including your IP address, which we use for security, abuse prevention, and rate limiting.

3. Legal bases (EEA/UK)

Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process your information on the following bases: performance of a contract (providing the App and purchases); our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improving the App); and your consent (location, photo capture, and personalized advertising), which you may withdraw at any time.

4. Photos and third-party processing

To identify the animal in a photo, the image is sent to our backend and forwarded to a third-party large-language-model provider (via OpenRouter) that returns a species identification. To protect the integrity of the game, each image is also checked against Google Cloud Vision’s web-detection service to detect images copied from the internet. These providers process the image to deliver these functions; we do not use your photos to build advertising profiles.

5. Advertising

We use Google AdMob to display ads. AdMob may collect and use data (including the advertising identifier and device/usage data) to serve and measure ads. Subject to your consent choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. For more information, see Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Premium users do not see ads.

We do not sell your personal information.

7. Data retention

We keep your account information, photos, and collection for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize the associated personal data, except where we must retain certain records (for example, purchase records for legal and accounting purposes).

9. International data transfers

Our providers (including Cloudflare and Google) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, such transfers are made under appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Children’s privacy

Animadex is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version here and update the “Last updated” date above.
